World Energy Conservation Day

The celebration of “World Energy Conservation Day” followed by the lecture session on the “Energy Conservation measures” was conducted at CAHCET, Melvisharam, on 16.12.2019.
The Celebrations was inaugurated with invocation song, welcome address by HOD/EEE department, followed by brief speech by Hon Secretary-IEI-RLC & HOD-EEE department of Rajagopal Polytechnic College. Shri. P.Mohanavel gave a lecture on the theme “Energy conservation measures”.

Prof. P. Mohanavel has covered the following topics during his session:

  • Energy Saved is Energy Produced. Conservation will help to last long for our future generations also.
  • Depletion of fossil fuel availability will force to look for Renewable energy sources like Solar, Wind, Hydro and Geo thermal energy etc.,
  • In the recent past years the use of Non-conventional energy sources have increased resulting in reduced use of fossil fuels.
  • Importance of 3Rs – Reduce, Re-use, Recycle in energy conservation.
  • Energy Savings –Measures to be adopted in Home, Office & Industries.
  •  
  • Adjusting day-to-day behaviors.
  • Turn-off lights & appliances when not in use.
  • Reducing the usage of energy-intensive appliances by performing household tasks manually.
  • Using the air conditioner less in the summer.
  • Usage of LED bulbs in place of incandescent & CFL bulbs.
  • Usage of smart power strips.
  • Installation of smart/programmable thermostat / Air-conditioner.
  • Procuring high energy efficient rated appliances.
  • Installation of energy efficient / smart / solar powered windows.
  • Upgrading the HVAC system.
  • Weatherizing home & office buildings.
  • Insulating home & office buildings.

The World energy conservation celebrations ended with vote of thanks followed by National Anthem.
