Kerala Electrical & Allied Engineering Co. Ltd. (KEL), established in 1964<\/strong>, is a government-owned engineering company in Kerala. Initially, it collaborated with the French firm EVR to manufacture brushless alternators for Indian Railways. Today, KEL has multiple production units supplying equipment to the Indian Army, Air Force, ISRO<\/strong>, and several national institutions. The company operates through an extensive all-India marketing network and is ISO 9001:2000 certified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Students visited the Power Transformer Manufacturing Unit<\/strong> on 13.08.2025 at 11:45 AM. The team received detailed exposure to various stages of transformer design and fabrication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Understanding Transformer Structure<\/strong> \u2013 Students learned about core and coil manufacturing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Core Manufacturing<\/strong> \u2013 Observed the use of silicon steel sheets for creating transformer cores.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Coil Winding<\/strong> \u2013 Understood copper winding processes such as spiral, helical, and continuous disc winding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Assembly Section<\/strong> \u2013 Learned how core and coil are assembled to form the active part of a transformer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Oil Filling Process<\/strong> \u2013 Understood the importance of high-purity insulating oil for performance and safety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Tank Fabrication & Sand Blasting<\/strong> \u2013 Observed techniques used for corrosion removal and structural preparation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Painting<\/strong> \u2013 Learned how coating enhances durability and appearance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Drying\/Ovening<\/strong> \u2013 Studied the moisture removal process using drying ovens and vacuum oil filling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Final Assembly & Dispatch<\/strong> \u2013 Saw fitting of bushings, radiators, and final preparation for shipment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
This industrial visit provided valuable practical knowledge on transformer engineering, manufacturing workflow, and quality control processes, greatly enriching the students\u2019 understanding of real-world industrial practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
